Hi there, I'm
Catherine
I’m a self-taught baker, cake decorator, and mum — just like many of you. I didn’t start with professional training or fancy equipment. I started exactly where you might be right now: Googling late at night, watching YouTube tutorials, and collecting more cake decorating books than I could fit on my shelves.
My journey really began when I decided to make my own wedding cake (mostly because I couldn’t justify the price!). Looking back, it felt a little crazy — but it sparked something I didn’t expect. From that moment on, I fell in love with cake decorating.
Since then, I’ve made all of my kids’ birthday cakes, learning through plenty of trial and error. There were definitely failures — but also growth, confidence, and lots of small wins along the way.
Over time, I realised that with the right techniques and guidance, beautiful cakes aren’t just for professionals — they’re absolutely achievable for beginners too.
That’s why I created A Caking Hand.
It’s the space I wish I had when I was starting out — a place where you can learn, feel supported, and build your skills with confidence. I’m here to share what I’ve learned, simplify the process, and walk alongside you in your own caking journey.
I help beginners learn simple, practical cake decorating techniques so they can create beautiful cakes with confidence.
Because baking isn’t just about cakes – it’s about bonding, creativity, and joyful memories made together.
I hope to see you in our caking space soon ♡
I offer beginner-friendly cake decorating classes in Melbourne for people who want to learn simple techniques and create beautiful cakes with confidence.
