Frequently Asked Questions

About the Class

Do I need any experience to join?

No experience needed at all. The class is designed specifically for beginners — people who love cakes but have never decorated one before, or who have tried at home and felt lost. You'll be guided through every step from the beginning.

What will I actually learn?

In one 3-hour class you'll learn how to assemble a layered cake, apply a smooth buttercream finish, and add piped decorations including rosettes, borders, and simple floral details. Everything is taught step by step with plenty of one-on-one support throughout.

How many people are in a class?

Classes are kept deliberately small — a maximum of 6 students. This means you get real, individual attention throughout, not just a quick demonstration and then you're on your own.

What do I take home?

You take home the cake you decorated in class. A full-sized, beautifully decorated buttercream cake that you made yourself.

Practical details

Where is it held?

Classes are held at my home studio in Ringwood North, Melbourne. The full address is shared with you after booking. There is parking available on the street.

What do I bring?

Just yourself and an apron if you have one. All cake ingredients, buttercream, decorating tools, equipment, and materials are provided. Nothing else is needed.

How long is the class?

In one 3-hour class you'll learn how to assemble a layered cake, apply a smooth buttercream finish, and add piped decorations including rosettes, borders, and simple floral details. Everything is taught step by step with plenty of one-on-one support throughout.

How do I book?

You can book directly through the website. Select your preferred date, complete checkout, and you'll receive a confirmation email with all the details, including the class address.

Is there an age limit?

Classes are generally suited to ages 14 and up. Younger children (from around 10–12) are welcome to join when accompanied by a participating adult — and in our experience, they do brilliantly! If you’re unsure whether it’s the right fit, just reach out at hello@acakinghand.com.au, and I’ll help you figure it out.

Can I book for someone else as a gift?

Yes — a cake decorating class makes a wonderful gift. Get in touch at hello@acakinghand.com.au and I can arrange a gift booking or gift voucher for you.

If things change

What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. Cancellations made more than 7 days before the class date receive a full refund. Within 7 days, I’m happy to transfer your booking to a future date.

Can I come alone or do I need to bring someone?

Absolutely come alone — most students do. The small group size means everyone gets to know each other quickly, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming from the start.

What if the class is full?

If your preferred date is sold out, you can join the waitlist through the website, and I'll contact you if a spot opens up.

Other

Do you offer private or group bookings?

Yes. If you'd like to book a private class for a group — hen's party, birthday, team event, or family occasion — get in touch at hello@acakinghand.com.au and we'll put together something special for your group.

Do you offer parent-child workshops?

Yes — I run occasional parent-child workshops designed as a fun creative activity for kids and their grown-ups to do together. Join the waitlist on the website to be notified when dates open.

I have a dietary requirement — is that a problem?

Please get in touch before booking, and I'll let you know what's possible. Contact me at hello@acakinghand.com.au.
